Whereas on the press tour for 2021’s “Mortal Kombat” (which he co-wrote), Russo told We Got This Covered:
“I am an enormous fan of the unique supply materials and I feel it is one of many best mangas ever written. And so for me, I did not play any function in ‘Dying Be aware,’ the primary movie that Netflix did, however I got here in with sort of a viewpoint with what I needed to do in a sequel. And a part of that’s I needed to return to the supply materials. I needed to return to what made the unique stuff so nice, and so we’re doing one thing actually neat with it. Hopefully, there can be extra data on it quickly.”
No extra data did come, apart from producer Masi Oka promising in 2021 that they had been “listening to the followers” with the sequel’s course.
In July 2022, it was confirmed that the Duffer Brothers (“Stranger Issues”) could be growing a live-action “Death Note” TV series for Netflix. Author Halia Abdel-Meguid is on board as nicely. Little extra concerning the challenge has been revealed, but it surely appears to have taken the place of Russo’s movie sequel. Whereas Netflix’s curiosity in “Dying Be aware” is alive and nicely, growing two variations of the story concurrently could be overkill.
