Carla Bruni accused in case involving Nicolas Sarkozy

Singer Carla Bruni, wife of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, was charged on Tuesday as part of the case of illegal financing of the 2012 campaign, which involves her husband, and subjected to coercive measures O.

Following the interrogation to which she was subjected, the model and singer was accused of “concealing bribery of witnesses” and “participation in a criminal organization with a view to committing the crime of fraud in an organized crime case”, said a judicial source.

According to the same source, Carla Bruni, with her action, misled the magistrates in charge of ruling on the judicial investigation into suspected Libyan financing of Sarkozy’s electoral campaign, indicted in October last year in the same process, after intermediary Ziad Takieddine recanted in 2020.

Bruni “was placed under judicial surveillance and banned from contacting all the protagonists of this process, with the exception of Nicolas Sarkozy”, added the judicial source.

This decision, “pronounced in the same terms as the one regarding her husband (…), is only the logical procedural consequence and has no legal or factual basis”, Carla Bruni’s lawyers told AFP.

Nicolas Sarkozy was accused, in October, of concealing a bribe from a witness and of conspiring to commit organized fraud to deceive French justice.
