Josh Klinghoffer, formerly of Red Hot Chili Peppers and currently of Pearl Jam, accused of fatally running over a person

Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer was the target of a court case after he fatally ran over a pedestrian in Los Angeles.

On March 18th, the musician, who between 2009 and 2019 was part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and has accompanied Pearl Jam on the tour that will bring them, this Saturday, back to Portugal, was circulating through Alhambra, in Los Angeles County, in an unlicensed vehicle. While making a turn, Klinghoffer hit 47-year-old Israel Sanchez while he was crossing a zebra crossing, reports “Billboard†.

According to the prosecution, cited by the North American publication, the musician was talking on his cell phone a few seconds before the accident. The prosecution’s lawyers say they have evidence that Klinghoffer “was driving in a distracted manner and did nothing to brake or slow down.”

In the process, it can also be said that Klinghoffer was not arrested, having immediately left on tour with Pearl Jam and leaving no word to the victim’s family.

The musician’s lawyer, however, told “Billboard†that Klinghoffer “immediately stopped the vehicle, called an ambulance, and waited for the police to arrive.†“This was a tragic accident,†he added.

Klinghoffer has played with Pearl Jam on the European leg of the “Dark Matter†tour, the latest of which took place on the 6th and 8th of July in Barcelona. The band led by Eddie Vedder is the main name at the NOS Alive festival, this Saturday, in Algés.
