Paes Antunes nominated for president of the Economic and Social Council

Former Secretary of State Luís Paes Antunes is, as far as Expresso knows, the likely new president of the Economic and Social Council (CES), succeeding the socialist Francisco Assis, who left the position to be a candidate for the legislative elections in March for the Porto district. The name was proposed by the AD and the new president must, however, be elected by two thirds, so an agreement between PS and PSD is necessary to guarantee the election, an agreement that will already have been achieved.

A source from the PS leadership confirmed to Expresso that there is an agreement for the CES, which makes the election likely, but still not guaranteed because the vote is held by secret ballot in a ballot box and, on previous occasions, the two parties were unable to guarantee the necessary two-thirds, forcing several votes.
