President-elect of Iran reaffirms support for Palestine in message to Hamas

The elected President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, assured that the country will continue to support Palestine in the fight against Israel, in a message addressed to the political leader of the Palestinian group Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with the principles and objectives of the Islamic Revolution and the ideas of Imam Khomeini, as well as the directives of the supreme leader, considers it a human and Islamic support for the Palestinian nation in the fight against the occupation and ‘apartheid’ of the Zionist regime,” Pezeshkian said in the message, quoted on Wednesday night by the state news agency IRNA.

The official noted that, thanks to the resistance of the Palestinian people and the heroism of those who fight, “divine victory will be for the beloved Palestine.”

Tehran is one of the main allies of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and leads the so-called “Axis of Resistance” against Israel, which includes Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels, among others.

Pezeshkian reaffirmed his support for the militias of the “Axis of Resistance” in the Middle East region three days ago, in a letter addressed to Hezbollah’s secretary general, Hasan Nasrala.

In a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, the elected President of Iran also assured that he would maintain support for Syria.

Pezeshkian won the second round of last week’s presidential elections, in an early vote following the death of the previous leader, Ebrahim Raisi, in a plane crash.

He takes office on July 30, in a ceremony in the Iranian parliament.
