Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins): “Taylor Swift is one of the most talented pop artists of all time”
Billy Corgan gave an interview to the newspaper “The Irish Times†, where he defended Taylor Swift and the more than two hours of “The Tortured Poets Department†, the artist’s new album.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman compared Swift to the late Sinéad O’Connor, asking whether “it would be bad to discover a cassette with 30 or 50 of her songs.”
“Taylor Swift is one of the most talented pop artists of all time,†he continued. “Why would releasing more music be a bad thing? I don’t understand. You can always go to Spotify and skip the songs†.
Corgan also took the opportunity to defend his own work, after the Smashing Pumpkins were criticized for the length of “Atum†, a triple album released between 2022 and 2023. “Make your own playlist. Listen to the album once and choose the six or ten songs you like. Why on earth should this be a bizarre concept?†he said. “I think he’s a bit childish.†.
Smashing Pumpkins will return to Portugal in July, for a concert at NOS Alive, on the 11th of that month.
