Elon Musk gave an Amazonian tribe access to the internet: they became addicted to pornography

Through the Starlink service, Elon Musk allowed internet access to a remote tribe in the Amazon. However, if the original idea was to connect this same tribe with the rest of the world, it quickly became a problem: many of the men in the tribe became addicted to pornography.

According to the “New York Times†newspaper, Musk reached an agreement with the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, to provide internet access to around 66 thousand indigenous people in the Amazon. The agreement also had a positive impact: indigenous people had access to more job opportunities and emergency services.

However, some of the locals are unhappy with the fact that many young people have become addicted to explicit sexual content, sharing the same content on chats of group.

Alfredo, one of the leaders of the Maríbo tribe, told the newspaper that these young people began to show “more aggressive sexual behavior†, and they were also concerned about their easy access “to the white people’s way of life†.

For indigenous rights activist Flora Dutras, the right of these people to access the internet is undeniable, but the nature of this access deserves criticism: “This is a case of ethnocentrism: the white man thinking he knows what that is better for others,†he said.
