EuroBic reaches record profit above €100 million and Isabel dos Santos’ departure will occur “very soon”
Despite the turmoil caused by the Luanda Leaks, interest on credits allowed Banco EuroBic to more than double its profit in 2023, before the sale to the Spanish Abanca, in an operation that the Portuguese bank believes will be completed soon and which will be embodied in the departure of, among others, Isabel dos Santos from the shareholder structure.
After that, EuroBic will be able to borrow money from investors, to meet the demands of the Bank of Portugal (which, even so, taking into account the bank’s situation, made compliance with European rules more flexible). And so the years in which the shareholder structure weighed on the bank’s day-to-day operations will be left behind, with the supervisor detecting “deficiencies†in the way it controlled the risk of money laundering.
