France: National Regrouping has “order and security” as its priority

Jordan Bardella, leader of the far-right National Regroupment party in France, stated that his priority is to restore order and security if he wins the legislative elections.

In an interview with radio station RTL, the winner of Sunday’s European elections in France, as head of the National Regroupment (RN) list, said that the party is “ready to to rule”.

Bardella stated that the party had prepared several bills “for months” highlighting that there could be intervention in matters relating to “purchasing power, immigration and security”.

Even so, he added that the conditions of a possible RN government could become complicated because Emmanuel Macron “will remain” as head of state.

On the economic front, Bardella said that “the economic situation is complicated” stressing that there is “a debt” at maximum levels.

For this reason, he was cautious when asked whether he would annul the pension reform adopted last year by Macron and which delays the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64 years of age.

One of its main measures “in favor of purchasing power” – one of the main concerns of the French, according to polls – is to cancel the 11% increase in gas for private consumers, scheduled to come into force on July 1st.

In addition to confirming his intention to proceed with the annulment, the political leader reaffirmed that he intends to reduce VAT from 20% to a rate of 5.5% for electricity, gas and diesel and ” exit European rules on electricity tariffs”.

In this regard, the intention of the party led by Marine Le Pen is to create a pricing system based on production costs only in France, with the declared intention of that French consumers benefit from investments made in nuclear power plants, which supply around 70% of the country’s energy.

To win the elections on June 30th and July 7th (the electoral system provides for two rounds), the RN is looking for external support.

Bardella and Le Pen began contacts this Tuesday with Marion Maréchal, niece of the RN leader and candidate for the European elections for the Reconquista party, a party considered more extremist than the National Regroupment.

Contacts were also established with members of the Republicans (LR), the classic right party, although Bardella did not disclose names.

In Sunday’s European elections, the list headed by Bardella won, with 31.37% of the votes, more than double the votes obtained by Macron’s party (14.6%).

In third place was the Socialist Party (PS) with 13.83%, followed by La France Insoumise (LFI, 9.89%), LR (7.25%), Os Verdes (5.50%) and Reconquista with 5.47%.
