IPMA places eight districts under orange warning Friday and Saturday due to thunderstorms

Eight districts will be under orange warning on Friday and Saturday due to the forecast of frequent thunderstorms, reported the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA).

The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Braga and Aveiro will be under orange warning between 18:00 on Friday and 06:00 on Saturday, passing then yellow until 9pm on Saturday.

The districts of Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Leiria and Portalegre will also be under yellow warning due to thunderstorms, between 3:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 pm on Saturday.

The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga due to the forecast of showers , sometimes strong, hail and accompanied by thunderstorms and convective gusts.

The yellow warning for showers will remain in place between 12:00 and 21:00 on Saturday.

Also the mountainous regions, the south and north coasts of Madeira and Porto Santo will be under yellow warning from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm this Thursday due to precipitation sometimes strong, and may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation” and the yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.

The IPMA predicts for this Thursday a generally very cloudy sky on the continent, especially high clouds, the possibility of showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon in the central and southern regions, generally weak wind and mist or morning fog in some locations in the north and center regions.

A rise in maximum temperature and suspended dust is also predicted, progressing from south to north throughout the day.

Minimum temperatures will range between 12 degrees Celsius (in Vila Real) and 19 (in Faro) and maximum temperatures between 22 (in Aveiro and Porto) and 35 (in Beja).

For the Madeira archipelago, the IPMA predicts for this Thursday generally very cloudy skies, periods of rain or showers, especially from the afternoon onwards, which can sometimes be strong and accompanied by thunderstorms and light to moderate winds. from the southwest, sometimes blowing strongly in the afternoon, especially in the highlands.

In Funchal, temperatures will vary between 20 and 25 degrees and in Porto Santo between 18 and 25.
