Mota-Engil signs contract worth more than €135 million for railway work in Brazil

The Brazilian branch of Mota-Engil signed a contract worth 791 million reais (more than 135 million euros at current exchange rates) for the implementation of a light rail system in the state of Bahia, the Portuguese construction company announced this Thursday, June 6, in a statement to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

The contract, which will be executed in a consortium with two companies, aims at “the elaboration and development of the Basic, Executive and “As Built†projects, execution of civil and urbanization works supply, supply and implementation of energy systems (aerial traction network and substations) and social technical work for expropriation purposes.

The objective is to implement the VLT (Light Rail Transport Vehicle, a type of light train) on the Ãguas Claras – Piatã section in Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia, with a total length of 10.52 kilometers. The execution period is 50 months, informs the construction company.

“With this contract, Mota-Engil continues to strengthen its presence in Latin America, through the success in contracting new large-scale projects in core markets in region”, concludes the statement.

At the end of May, the construction company announced the signing of contracts in Latin America worth around 350 million euros. Of these, 150 million related to two contracts signed by the Mota-Engil Peru branch with the Peruvian state for the construction of a road bridge and the maintenance of a road network.
