PS wants explanations from the Economy Minister in parliament about AICEP administration

The PS today requested a parliamentary hearing of the Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, with the aim of understanding the reasons for replacing the administration of the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP ).

The announcement was made in parliament by deputy Hugo Costa who, in statements to journalists, argued that the departure of an administration that, he says, presented good results “in a sector so decisive for the growth and development”.

“It is important to understand what are the reasons that led the Minister of Economy, who has been missing for these nine weeks, to appear publicly for the first time with a dissolution of the board of directors. The minister of Economy cannot be hidden”, he criticized.

For the socialist, this is a Government decision taken by “partisans”, the same expression used this Monday by Augusto Santos Silva to criticize the case, which is part of a pattern that has already ¡ led to “nine purges in nine weeks”.

The socialist was referring to previous dismissals at the PSP, at the Social Security Institute, at Santa Casa da Misericórdia, in the executive direction of the SNS, at Museus e Monumentos EPE, at Património Cultural IP, Mosteiro Jerónimos and Torre de Belém.

“The board of directors that was dissolved yesterday [segunda-feira] it was a board of directors with results. Exports had increased and foreign direct investment had also increased (…) it doesn’t make sense for us to resign just for convenience,” he stated.

Hugo Costa defended that the only convenience in this decision is “partisan and political” and recalled that the first Government led by António Costa, who took office in 2015, did not change the choices of the previous executive in the administration of AICEP.

The socialist deputy also criticized the new administration, led by consultant Ricardo Arroja, stating that it is made up of a “group of people who have no experience in international trade and exports”.

This Monday, the Government dissolved the administration of AICEP, led by Filipe Santos Costa, and appointed Ricardo Arroja, professor and consultant, to take his place.
