Zelensky in the Philippines to promote a peace summit, while Zaporizhia is in a precarious situation (the 831st day of war)

During this weekend, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was at the main Asian security and defense forum. Zelensky appeared by surprise, on Sunday, at the Shangri-La Dialogue, the main security and defense forum in Asia, to ask for support from the Asia-Pacific countries for the world peace summit that will take place, June 15th to 16th, in the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock.

In his speech in Singapore, Zelensky expressed “disappointment” that some countries, such as China, had not confirmed their presence at the summit and accused Moscow of trying to “derail” efforts to achieve air peace.

Zelensky met, according to Philippine television ABS-CBN, with his counterpart, Ferdinand Marcos, who expressed all possible support for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. While Zelensky was in Asia, Ukraine’s energy situation worsened: several regions were left without electricity due to damage caused by Russian attacks.

The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that the situation at the Zaporijia nuclear plant, under Russian control in Ukraine, remains precarious after the April attacks.

“In early April, the Zaporijia plant was directly attacked for the first time in almost a year and a half. These attacks violated the first of the five principles for protecting the Zaporijia plant that I first presented a year ago,” explained the leader of the United Nations nuclear agency.
