Berrettini suffered a serious injury at the US Open when he slipped during his match against Arthur Rinderknech in the second round. The Italian sprained his right ankle and left the court in a wheelchair. The subsequent examination revealed a partial tear of the anterior talofibular ligament that left him without playing for the remainder of the season.
