Historical UCAM: Definitive ‘Carpenazo’… now to the ACB final!

El UCAM Murcia made history at Carpena and won one of the most beautiful semi-finals of all time in the ACB, (70-79). Sito Alonso’s team sneaks into its first final after winning all three games in Malaga. It was an exhibition of Dylan Ennis in hot moments always well escorted by Caupain.

He Unicaja once again suffered the vertigo of the first two crashes. And Ibon Navarro’s men started the match flying. A 10-0 start that forced Sito to stop. Perry saw the hoop as a swimming pool. The pause did not stop Unicaja. More triples from Osetkowski and Kalinoski put the distance above 10 points. Dylan Ennis held on for UCAM Murcia, but the club Los Guindos closed the quarter with another outside shot by Carter, (25-14).

All the local magic suddenly went out after the first pause. Sito Alonso pulled the strings on the bench and deactivated the Malagueños who did not score in the game in the next seven and a half minutes. It was the moment for Caupain and Sant-Ross to go ahead and turn the match around. From there the scoreboard was a seesaw from side to side. The defense in the Murcian zone worked although Unicaja went into the break one up. Sparks even flew between Carter and Ennis, who almost came to blows in the locker room tunnel.

The second half of the match was pure tension. Dylan Ennis put his team on his back and each attack was a headache. The electronic danced from side to side. Unicaja relied on Osetkowski and Ejim to withstand the Canadian guard’s great game. Radebaugh led UCAM Murcia by six, but a triple on Perry’s horn foreshadowed the cajista comeback(52-55).

And the Carpena believed. She did it thanks to a microwave moment from Alberto Díaz. The redhead guard was a machine to steal and score triples, two in a row. Unicaja went eight up and forced Sito Alonso to turn on the alarm. It was Caupain with a triple that revived the Murcians, who seemed badly injured. He pulled with pride and another helping of points from Dylan Ennis for UCAM Murcia.

Unicaja did not expect the reaction. Ibon Navarro’s team collapsed in the first two games despite another triple from Kravish. Dylan Ennis put another gear into gear and took the Malaga dream with him. A collection of mistakes from Perry, Kalinoski and Osetkowski left Unicaja with no options in the final two minutes. Too many mistakes for a UCAM Murcia that smelled blood to make history. Caupain and Ennis went up to 19 points. UCAM Murcia, the clear winner, will play against Real Madrid in the final.
