The La Cartuja record is another victory for Spain

Spain’s victory in the Women’s Nations League is not only a victory on the field of play, but also in the stands. The 32,657 spectators that met at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville represent a new capacity record for a match of the Spanish women’s team in our country.

It is also about the fifth best entrance at the Sevillian Coliseum in senior national team matches. Yesterday’s number of spectators was only surpassed by the duels against Croatia in 1999 (57,619 spectators); against Sweden in 2021 (51,844); against Scotland in 2023 (45,623); and against China in 2012 (45,000).

The public was able to enjoy the game from the start, making themselves known in their support for the players with chants of ‘Champions, champions‘, making the wave and turning on the flashlights of the cell phones in what is becoming a picture to remember.

We are very hungry to win every game, every title, and if on top of that it is at home, with people and family nearby, much better.

Irene Paredes, captain of the Spanish team

“There was a desire to celebrate. We are very hungry to win every game, every title, and if on top of that it is at home, with people and family nearby, much better,” decided captain Irene Paredes. “When you win you get more people involved and that’s important. Let everyone join in!” she added.

Ovation to Torrecilla and Olga’s grandmother

The first ovations from the respectable audience were taken Virginia Torrecilla, a legend still active, who was the ambassador of the final and in charge of carrying the trophy at the hands of the champions; and María Luisa, Olga Carmona’s grandmother, who was the one who took the ball to the center circle. Everything was predestined for the team to make history on a day to remember for the so-called Spanish women’s soccer that has once again shown that, with love and promotion, it ends up hooking the respectable.

The next big event for the Spanish team will be away from home, precisely in France, where it will be one of the 12 participants in the soccer tournament at the Paris Olympic Games. Before, in the April international window, The national team will return to action in the first qualifying matches for the 2025 Euro Cup to be held in Switzerland.
