Court orders Cristina Ferreira’s company to pay compensation of more than 3 million euros to SIC

This Tuesday, the Court of Sintra ruled in favor of SIC, in a case in which the station – belonging to the Impresa group, owner of Expresso – requested compensation from Cristina Ferreira and the company Amor Ponto, Lda. (formerly Cristina Ferreira Lda., which she owns with her father) for the “abrupt and surprising†breach of contract in 2020. The presenter was acquitted, but the company she owns was ordered to compensate SIC.

The court decided, in accordance with the sentence to which SIC Notícias had access, “(…) corder the 1st Defendant Amor Ponto Lda., (…), to pay the Plaintiff SIC Sociedade Independente de Comunicação SA the amount € 3,315,998.67 (three million three hundred and fifteen one thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight euros and sixty-seven cents), plus interest, at the commercial rate, from the quote until effective and full payment”.

The Court justifies this decision of “order Amor Ponto Lda. to pay SIC the arbitrated compensation, absolving Cristina Ferreira from this request, with the fact that she “understood that the specific service provision contract signed had been between the SIC e Amor Ponto Lda., not to be confused with its majority shareholder and manager.

It was, remember, on July 17, 2020, that Cristina Ferreira decided to unilaterally terminate her connection to SIC, putting an end to the contract that bound her until November 30, 2022.

“SIC regrets the abrupt and surprising decision, but despite the disappointment, it wants to thank Cristina Ferreira for the work developed throughout this short but intense period, within a winning team, which will continue to commit its talent and professionalism to deserve the public’s trust,” highlighted SIC in the statement issued four years ago.
