EDP wants to convert the country’s third hydroelectric plant into a battery: work will take four years
The environmental licensing process for a project that could be a key part in the energy transition and in managing the intermittency of renewable sources in electricity production has entered public consultation in Portugal. This involves the conversion of part of the capacity of the Alto Lindoso hydroelectric plant, so that, instead of just turbineing the water to generate electricity, one of the project’s generating groups also operates with pumping, improving the country’s water storage capacity, and transforming the Alto Lindoso reservoir into a type of “natural battery†.
