Footwear: following the Italian footprint in luxury gives Portugal an additional 1.2 billion in exports, shows a study by EY Parthenon

The math is easy to do. In 2013, there were 12.1 euros separating the average export price per pair of shoes between Portugal and Italy. In 2023, the difference became 38.9 euros. While Made in Italy gained an average of 88% per pair in the last decade, jumping from 35.4 euros to 66.6 euros, Made in Portugal stood at 19% (23.3 euros vs 27. 7 euros).

It is true that the national record of 27.7 euros per pair is the second highest average price in the world, only beaten by Italy. But it is also true that “the difference between the two countries is big“.
